We introduce Claisse ( sample preparation equipment for highly accurate and safe XRF · ICP analysis ) .

Claisse (Glaze) is a glass bead making machine boasting excellent bead success rate and high cost-effectiveness, which is used for sample pretreatment of fluorescent X-ray analysis (XRF). We compared the press pellet method and the glass bead method in terms of processing time, XRF measurement difficulty, and XRF measurement accuracy.

Press pellet method

In the press pellet method, ideally, the calibration sample must have the same particle size, particle uniformity, density, and linear absorption coefficient as the unknown sample (matrix match). Also, if the same element is included in more than one mineral species, various corrections including XRF alpha correction can not be performed, and measurement precision is limited.

Glass bead method

In the glass bead method, each element is homogeneously dispersed in the boric acid glass matrix in the most oxidized state, and high precision can be easily obtained because matrix matching and unknown sample are achieved. Processing time is 15 minutes to 20 minutes / sample, which is close to the ideal state, it is possible to use a single calibration curve from low concentration to high concentration.

The hardly soluble sample is heated in a Pt crucible together with the flux, and the melt is dropped into the acid, which is usually dissolved in about 15 minutes. It can be completely dissolved in 5 to 10% nitric acid or dilute hydrochloric acid in a short time, so it is safe because it does not use hydrofluoric acid (HF) or perchloric acid.

Compared to conventional methods using ultrasonic waves and pressurization, it is possible to create a total amount of solution by a simple process, and it can be processed in a short time. By using high purity flux, high purity solution can be obtained.

In Malvern / Panalitical, we have high purity (99.98%) flux and ultra high purity (99.995 +%) (Normally, flux purity obtained in market is around 98%).

We propose the optimum flux from LiT (Li 2 B 2 O 7), LiM (LiBO 2) and mixtures thereof according to the know-how accumulated in Claisse Co., Ltd.
